The Interact Club of Asian International School

Drug Awareness Programme

ICAIS held a Drug Awareness Drive on the 8th of March 2012 to enlighten the students of the upper school on the various harmful substances that threaten the welfare of today’s teenagers. We invited Rtn Dr. Suresh Britto to address the students and explain the physical and psychological effects of abusing such substances. We gained a lot of knowledge through Dr. Britto’s interactive speech, after which we asked a lot of questions to clarify our queries. This assembly was truly a success. Students returned with much information to brood over and Dr. Britto’s parting message- the best way to exit is never to enter.

Hero Kids 2012

Dsc_0146_1024x680
On the 21st of February, ICAIS held the 'Project Hero Kids', a new and innovative idea put forward by the chairperson Int. Neranga Fernando where 57 children from the Green Fly Viradaru Club were invited. These children had unfortunately suffered the trauma of having their parents fight in the War.
Dsc_0054_800x377
ICAIS attempted to lift their spirits through the inspirational speech by the wonderful toastmaster Dayan Fernando. This was followed by lunch as well as games such as cricket and musical chairs between the interactors and our new friends. It was an amazing experience and ICAIS hopes that ithas succeeded in its mission to lift the spirits of these children who truly deserve their title- Hero Kids.

Cupcake Stall at Interaction 2012

At Interaction 2012 held on the 28th of January at Shalika Grounds, the Interact Club of Asian International School put up a stall in the aid of supporting Alzheimer awareness.

Dsc_0005
We put up the stall hoping to catch the eyes of interactors from different schools. I can honestly say that we did, indeed, draw their attention with our variety of baked goodies and savouries.
Our chocolate cupcakes were our biggest seller with all it's psychedelic colours and designs, and of course it's mouth watering taste. Also we sold chocolate chip cookies that literally melted in your mouth!
To give a twist on our idea of a bake sale, we sold chicken rottis to add spice to our sweetened tastebuds. It generated quite a bit of excitement amongst other interactors.
Under the heat of the burning sun, what would you want more than have something cool and refreshing to quench your thirst?... The ICAIS stall had exactly that! Iced fizzy drinks and even iced water were sold, allowing everyone to enjoy themselves while soaking up the sun.
Having sold everything within a couple of hours, we were left to enjoy ourselves in all the fun that interaction brought about.
Dsc_0014
All in all, I am proud to say that ICAIS has succeeded, yet again, in providing one of the most innovative and in my humble opinion, one of the best stalls at Interaction 2012!

Carolling 2011

Dsc_0418

December is finally here!

ICAIS took part in the holiday celebrations by carrying out the annual caroling project on the 12th of this month. Interactors visited the female inmates of the Welikade Prison, the wonderful elder residents of the Little Sister Elders Home and also the brave soldiers at the Ranaviru Sevana who fought for our country. Members performed Christmas carols for all our audiences. We hoped to spread the joy of Christmas and we were quite successful. We handed out bonbons and sweets to the young children living in the Welikade prison as well as a Christmas Hamper to the Little Sisters home and music CDs to the Ranaviru Sevana.

Visit to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital

This article was featured in the education times on the 4th of December! Click here to read more

The 15th of November was a highly anticipated day for ICAIS. On this day, interactors had the pleasure of visiting the delightful children of the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. Interactors played with the children and performed for them. The smile on their faces made us feel like we had accomplished something that day. We handed them a package of various items such as soft toys, biscuits, nappies, etc. In a matter of hours, we had become so attached to our young friends that we didn’t want to leave.

“I’m definitely coming back next year!”
 - Int. Thnisha
On the same day, ICAIS had the pleasure of meeting the elder residents of the Shantha Sevana Hospice. A lot of interaction took place between the students and the men and women of the home. We gave sarongs to the men and mightgowns to the women after a delightful snack. This experience truly meant a lot to all the members.

(On request of the Cancer hospital we have not published any photos to the public)

Ranaviru Sevana 2011

ICAIS organized visit trip to the Ranaviru Sevana ‘Shelter for War Heroes’ in Dehiwala. Fifty interactors had the honour of meeting the brave soldiers that fought for Sri Lanka. Interactors greeted them with garlands and performed for the soldiers. This was followed an amusing song and dance session with them. We served them a tea time snack and presented them with t-shirts sponsored by Mobitel. Interactors asked the soldiers various questions about their
experience at war which our heroes were happy to answer.
